Thanks to one of my patients for sending me this great article about a new book being published on the interactions and effects of taking herbs and Western pharmaceuticals together. Remember that many herbs have the same or opposing effects to the Western drugs, and must be considered when deciding to take an herb or a drug.

The other thing to remember is that it’s best not to continue taking an herb for more than a few months. If the herb is a good one for you, it should generally work pretty quickly.

In Chinese medicine, we generally will switch formula frequently as the symptoms change. This keeps your body from getting used to a particular herb or formula and from developing an allergy to it or some other reaction or side effect.
