Many medical doctors are now prescribing homeopathic Arnica before and after facial cosmetic surgery. In this article, published in the January/February 2006 Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, Arnica was shown to be very effective in reducing bruising due to the surgery.

In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of 29 face-lift surgery patients, the patients who were given the Arnica, instead of the placebo, began improving after the first post-operative day, while the placebo patients got worse before improving.

The Arnica was given in a 1M potency and was taken three times per day, once before and twice after the surgery. It was then taken in a 12C dose, three times per day for the three days following the surgery.

Comment: It always amazes me when I see a patient who says their M.D. has prescribed for them a homeopathic remedy or Chinese herbs. I love it. I absolutely love it. My dream, even before I entered this field, was to see our healthcare system evolve into an integrated model, where we could go to one place and choose which healing modalities we wanted, in tandem with the help and advice of our M.D. and other health practitioners. In many ways, we are getting closer and closer to this.
