Study Shows Improvement in IVF
Success rates of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) have
shown that those women
receiving acupuncture along with IVF have had a success rate of
pregnancy of
42.5% vs. only 26.3% in the control group. A total of nine acupuncture
points were used on patients in the acupuncture group. The treatment
was
performed for 25 minutes both just before and just after the IVF
procedure.
The points used before the procedure were Pc6, Sp8,
Lv3, GV20, St29, St36,
Sp6 and LI4. The points used after the procedure were Pc6, LI20, GV20,
and
ear uterus and ear endocrine points.
According to Dr. Nancy Snyderman, a board-certified
surgeon/pediatrician,
"There is no doubt, because this was a very well-done study and it was
reported in a very highly regarded medical journal, that doctors will
sit up
and pay attention to it."
This study was performed according to standard
double blind methods with a
sample of 160 women in Germany with two study teams of researchers from
Germany and the People’s Republic of China. It was reported
in Fertility and
Sterility, 4/02; 77(4):721-4.
